About Buxton Daycare

Goals of the Buxton Daycare
-
To provide good, quality daycare for children at a reasonable rate.
-
To provide a well-rounded program for children to encourage social, emotional, physical and cognitive development, and stimulating activities which encourage them to enjoy learning.
-
To provide continuity and stability by reinforcing parental standards, ideals, and values.
-
To make use of available community resources for the provision of a needed service.
We strive to provide a safe and stimulating home-away-from-home environment for children. We encourage an environment where children can interact with others, express themselves, share, and learn respect and honesty.
These goals become possible through the efforts of a well-trained, enthusiastic, and understanding staff. All staff at the daycare have CPR/First Aid Training and attend between two and eight hours of county-approved training related to the child care industry annually depending on the number of hours worked.
Buxton Daycare is a fully equipped building with one full size bedroom with cribs and playpens. We have a well equipped kitchen with adequate seating for children, including high chairs. Our large playrooms encourage activities that develop elementary motor skills and our quieter room offers an area for books, crafts, and hands on play. Our large fenced-in backyard is equipped with a covered, fenced-in sandbox, swings, slides, baby swings and many activities for your child.

About The Board of Directors
The board of directors meets monthly with the daycare director. Meetings are generally held on the fourth Monday of the month unless otherwise posted. Parents are welcome at the meetings to discuss any concerns they may have. At times, the board of directors will call a meeting they specifically want parents to attend to discuss policy changes, rate changes, etc. Parents will be notified via Brightwheel or signs posted at daycare.
To supplement proceeds from childcare services, Buxton Daycare operates charitable gaming sites at the two bars in Buxton. Because the daycare strives to offer an affordable daycare option, funds are needed from charitable gaming and fundraisers. Income from these operations is necessary to supplement daycare operations as well as providing funding for the building improvements, equipment, etc. The board of directors oversee the charitable gaming and employs a gaming manager and bookkeeper.
Buxton Daycare:
History
Buxton Daycare was formerly knows as Buxton Children's Center. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to the continued positive and progressive childcare for the youth in the area. The daycare was organized in response to the community, social, and economic needs. The board of directors continues to feel pride that a rural community, such as Buxton, has responded to a community need and concern.
Buxton Daycare is an employee/parent organization started in 1980, from which a bright and prosperous future is emerging. it is a cooperative with a major emphasis on people (children) as it's most valuable asset.
The cooperative began in the Immanuel Lutheran Church basement. A small house was then rented in Buxton. The daycare soon outgrew the house and purchased the current building in 1990. The daycare has experienced growth, expansion, and a progressive atmosphere and continued improvement. Prospects for the future are promising and exciting.
